   CU & Our Community
Residential Home CU enjoys a unique bond with its customers and its service area. Improving the lives of people we serve means the utility makes a positive difference with the friends, neighbors and citizens we see in the community every day.

By investing in the community now, CU helps preserve the benefits of Springfield for future generations.

How Does CU and its Employees Benefit our Community?
  • Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT)
In 2008, CU provided $12.7 million in cash payments in lieu of taxes and an additional $16.2 million in no-cost services to the city of Springfield, totaling $28.9 million in support to the community and its citizens.

  • United Way and CU
City Utilities' employees were recognized at the United Way Annual Meeting held on March 3 as one of 15 Circle of Caring organizations recognized for completing campaigns with 50% or greater employee participation and representing $150 per capita or greater annual gift.

CU employees also volunteer for the annual Day of Caring, providing on-site improvements to local agencies.

  • 5K Fun Run for the Kitchen
The 18th Annual 5k Kitchen Fun Run/Walk was held on May 9 to raise money for the Family Nurturing Center.
Community Programs
  • Central Advantage
CU’s partnership with Central High School is designed to help today’s students become tomorrow’s successful workforce. The utility provides employee volunteer time and resources to keep children in school and facilitate the school-to-work transition.

The program stresses team building, goal setting, budgeting, conflict resolution and career exploration.
