About the Program:
An ENERGY STAR Home Rating is a way for homeowners to verify the energy performance of their home, to qualify for an energy-efficient mortgage, and to receive the ENERGY STAR label as an added value to the home. ENERGY STAR qualified homes must meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy-efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20-30% more efficient than standard homes.

An ENERGY STAR Home Rating is performed by a certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater. The HERS rater inspects the home’s energy loads, such as:
  • Insulation levels
  • Window efficiency
  • Wall-to-window ratios
  • Heating and cooling system efficiency
  • Water heating system efficiency
  • Number of ENERGY STAR qualified lighting and appliances
  • Infiltration measurement
  • Duct performance
