Emission Incident at Power Generation Unit

Earlier today, a piece of power plant equipment at John Twitty Energy Center experienced a brief malfunction. This malfunction allowed fly-ash that is normally collected to be released into the atmosphere.

City Utilities has resolved the situation at the power plant and as required, the incident was reported to the proper authorities.

Fly-ash is not hazardous to people, animals, or vegetation and can be rinsed with water from most surfaces.

CU recommends that residents who have vehicles that the ash has landed on to have them washed commercially. To assist with this, CU is arranging to provide free car washes for these residents and will provide locations and times once these have been established.
