Board Approves Site for Southeast Water Tank
The Board of Public Utilities has voted to purchase property currently owned by Howard Bailey for the site of a water tank in southeast Springfield. This property is located near highway 60 and Farm Road 189, on the north side.

The Board vote was 6 for, 4 against, and 1 abstention.

Total project cost for the water tank is estimated at $3.25 million and construction is expected to being in the summer of 2012 with a two-year construction time.

The Board based its final decision on three important factors:
  • Lowest impact to existing neighborhoods.
  • Lowest tank height and visual impact to community. The tower will be approximately 137 feet.
  • Lowest overall project cost estimate.

Annual Independent Audit
Auditing firm BKD has returned a clean and unqualified independent audit report of fiscal year 2011 for City Utilities of Springfield. The annual audit found no areas of concern in any area of the financial responsibilities of the utility.

Transit Ridership and Revenues Continue to Grow
Bus ridership again experienced growth in comparison to the same period last year. November of 2011 had 134,846 riders when compared to November of 2010 with 114,161. Farebox revenues increased from $69,431 in November of 2010 to $87,568 in November of 2011.
