Energy Management and Conservation programs to close one month early

Due to increased participation, the Energy Management and Conservation programs offered by City Utilities of Springfield will close on August 31, 2010. The Home$ense Energy Audit and Refrigerator Recycling programs will remain open through September 30, with all rebate and incentive programs scheduled to reopen on October 1, 2010.

Customers may continue to apply for rebates and incentives in September; however, the rebate payment will not take place until after October 1, 2010. A complete list of programs still available can be found at www.cuenergywise.com.

Although several programs were closed earlier this year due to increased customer participation, additional funding for the remaining programs was identified through savings achieved in other areas throughout the year.

Energy Management and Conservation programs have been offered by CU since the 1970s with the majority of programs having been developed since October 2006. Customer participation, both residential and commercial, has continued to experience annual growth.

During the month of June, City Utilities Energy Management and Conservation department processed 383 rebates and audits. This brings the total for the year to 5,749. This number exceeds the total amount of audits and rebates processed for all previous years. The Refrigerator and Freezer Recycling program has recycled 667 units with an additional 75 expected in the coming days. This accounts for approximately 25 percent of funding for this program. For more information on other rebate and incentive programs, visit www.cuenergywise.com or call 874-8200.
