Spring Electricity Safety

Apr 9, 2016

Spring fever is the best kind of fever. The weather is finally warming up and it’s the perfect time to get outside to enjoy the outdoors. But, for those without the knowledge, there is danger lurking near some of our favorite activities.

Electricity is part of our everyday life. We need it to live, work and play, but when it is used incorrectly, electricity can be very dangerous.

Here are some tips to keep in mind while you’re enjoying your favorite activities this spring:

  • Avoid planting trees near power lines.
  • Never touch a downed power line. You never know if a power line has electricity running through it until it’s too late.
  • Avoid flying kites near power lines. Electricity can “jump” or “arc” from the power line to an unsuspecting kite and hurt the person holding on to it.
  • Never let ladders, antennas, or other items come in contact with power lines. The same goes for using heavy machinery near power lines.
  • Never dig without knowing what’s below. Call 811 or visit MO1Call before you dig.

Remember, it’s always best to play it safe. If you’re not sure what to do, walk away and give us a call.
