Right Tree Right Place
Spring is here! That means it’s time to get outside and plant all of the wonderful trees that we will enjoy for years to come. With a little bit of planning, did you know that trees can provide more than just beauty to your landscaping?
When planted in the right place, trees can help you reduce your heating and cooling costs. Large trees and shrubbery can help shade your home during the summer months. Planting trees on the east and west sides of your home provide the best shading during the summer. Avoid planting trees on the south side, which will block the heat from the sun during the winter.
Not only is it important to think about placing your new trees to get the most benefits for your home, but also don’t forget to consider both overhead and underground utility lines before you plant.
Your future yard beauties need to be at least 25 feet from any overhead powerlines and 10 feet from underground utility lines. That helps us prevent outages and reduce repair times caused by tree interference.
Another thing to consider is the type of tree you plant near utility lines. A small sapling that will mature into a large, shade tree will eventually interfere with the overhead power lines. This is a no-win situation for you, for the tree and for us. For areas near overhead lines, consider a small tree that, when full grown, will take up less vertical space and be equally as beautiful.
