How To SHARE Warmth This Winter

Feb 6, 2018

The bitter cold of late has forced your heating systems to work double time to keep your home comfortable. As we’re sure many are seeing, that cold weather means your bill is higher than usual. For some, Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation and Project SHARE are their lifeline to staying warm during the winter.

Your Project SHARE donation may help the elderly woman down the street. She lives alone with a monthly income of $586, and while her income is not enough to meet even her basic needs, she manages well. Not long ago, however, her furnace was red tagged, determined too dangerous to use. With no means to pay for it alone, she turned to the community for help and received assistance from many people and agencies.

The amount of OACAC Energy Assistance funding she was eligible for was also used, which meant there would be no additional help should she find herself in need again. Knowing there will be at least three more months of cold weather, what is she going to do? Project SHARE is available and helps her keep her home warm.

Your Project SHARE donation may also help the family next door. After the passing of her husband, a mother was left alone to raise her six children. Her oldest child is in his first year of college on a scholarship. As a working mother on food stamps, she is doing her best to provide and care for her family. When she struggles to make ends meet, Project SHARE is available to help with high utility costs.

During the 2017 season, Project SHARE helped 373 people just like these folks living right here in Springfield. With your help, Project SHARE may be able to help 400 or more this winter season!

Do you want to help make a difference for one of your neighbors this winter? You can opt-in to donate a fixed amount every month, round up your bill to the next dollar, or both! Sign up for Project SHARE here or call us at 417-863-9000.
