Hello! My Name Is Payton.
Hello! My name is Payton. I’ve been with CU for almost two years working as a Payroll Co-op. At CU, co-ops are college students who are working to get experience in their field while they are still in school.
CU: What do you do in your position?
Payton: My position consists of processing time sheets, giving reports to managers, processing COBRA for employees, and to process journal entries.
CU: What’s your favorite thing you do?
Payton: My favorite aspect of my job would be getting the hands-on experience with accounting principles. I feel like I am learning more by being able to make the journal entries than doing textbook journal entries in class.
CU: Why do you like working for us?
Payton: I like working with City Utilities because of the attitudes of the employees. Everyone seems to always have a smile on their face and are super sweet. There isn’t a day that goes by where I dread coming into work because I know I get to work alongside genuine people.
CU: Why should someone want to apply to work in your department?
Payton: I encourage people to apply to work at City Utilities because there are so many doors for opportunities. I started in the GIS department a month after I had graduated high school at the age of 18. Little did I know, that by accepting the position, it had created an opportunity for me to receive a job in the Accounting department shortly after I had turned 20.
CU: What do you do outside of work for fun?
Payton: Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with friends in my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. But that is when I am not at my second job. As a second job, I work for the Springfield Park Board as an Accessible Recreation Leader. I work with adults and children who have disabilities. It doesn’t really seem like a second job which is super nice! It is a ton of fun because I get to interact with a community that I normally wouldn’t interact with if I didn’t know about their programs! They teach me a whole new meaning to life and are true inspirations.
