Residential Customers May See Reduced Electric Bill

Oct 2, 2018

Beginning in October until March 2019, you can expect to pay about $5.90 less for electric use for every 1,000 kWh you use compared to the same six-month period last year. This change in your bill is due to an updated electric Fuel Adjustment Factor of $0.0205 per kWh.

This adjustment is part of our normal, semi-annual process that aligns our projected fuel costs to produce electricity with our actual fuel costs. Every six months, we calculate and predict what the cost of fuel and purchased energy will be for the next six months. If our prediction is wrong, we place a Fuel Adjustment Factor on your bill for the next six months, which compensates for the true cost of fuel and purchased energy.

For natural gas customers, you can also expect to pay less for natural gas over the next six months. Residential customers using average volumes of natural gas can expect to pay 21 cents less per month than projected natural gas costs, based on expected residential usage averaging 94 therms per month.

Natural gas prices are adjusted monthly to match projected prices for fuel and, twice a year, the rates are realigned through the recovery adjustment.
