Connecting To Our Community

Jul 3, 2019

We all live and work in Springfield so we love giving back to the community. We’ve had a busy summer so far connecting to our community as your community-owned utility.

Every year, our employees select a nonprofit to support and this year’s selection is Fish 4 Tales, an organization that gives disabled children and veterans the opportunity to experience fishing and the great outdoors. In June, our Diversity & Inclusion Committee hosted a fundraiser lunch, Taste of the World, for employees to sample foods from around the world. The lunch raised $1,335 for Fish 4 Tales.

Communities In Motion Week, where we celebrate transit and all our great riders, was a great success connecting to our community. On Monday, we served countless riders free donuts and coffee at the Transit Center. On Tuesday, we celebrated our drivers all day! Thursday was Dump The Pump Day and we offered free rides to everyone. On Friday, we celebrated our riders with a Springfield Cardinals spirit day. We gave away nearly 500 tickets to Springfield Cardinals games!

We also participated in United Way’s Day of Caring. About 70 employees spent the day volunteering with five different nonprofits including Boys & Girls Club of Springfield, I Pour Life, Ozarks Food Harvest, Ritter Springs Park, Shady Dell Early Learning Childhood Center and Victory Mission. The projects employees helped accomplish allow the organizations to spend less money on fixing buildings or landscaping, and more money helping people!
