October 6 – 12 Recognized As Public Power Week

City Utilities of Springfield is celebrating the week of October 6 – 12 as Public Power Week. CU joins over 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49-million Americans. “We are proud to be community powered,” said General Manager Scott Miller, “Public power puts the people of Springfield first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally grown, locally owned power to our neighbors.”

Now’s the Time to Prepare Your Home For Winter

Now’s the time to prepare for cold winter months. CU offers several energy and money saving tips that can help not only with winter utility bills but year-round as well. We also provide several convenient ways to pay your bill that will save time, and remove some of the uncertainty. Visit the Ways to Save, and My Account sections of our website for more information.

Electric and Natural Gas Fuel Cost Adjustments

During the next six-months, October through March, CU electric customers using an average of 1000 kWh of energy can expect to pay an average of $.80 more per month than the period of April through September. The increase is based on truing up actual fuel costs for power generation with previously estimated costs. The average cost with the fuel adjustment remains $3.35 less than the average cost for the past 10 years.

Natural Gas customers can expect, on average, an increase of approximately $1.00 per month on the natural gas portion of the bill compared to the same time period last year. The adjustment is based on average natural gas use of 101 therms during the months of October through March and trues up the difference between the previously projected costs and actual natural gas costs.

These routine adjustments, up or down, occur every six months.
