75 Years And Counting
City Utilities to Commemorate 75 Years as Public Utility Provider
On March 26, 2020, City Utilities of Springfield will celebrate 75 years of providing reliable utility service to the residents and businesses of Springfield. City Utilities (CU) was formed in 1945 by City Council to provide electric and natural gas service to the community. The water utility was purchased 12 years later in 1957 to add to the services provided by CU.
“The decision and investment by those community leaders in 1945 was one that would set the cornerstone for growth and reliable utility services in Springfield for years to come,” said Gary Gibson, City Utilities General Manger. “We’re very proud of what CU has accomplished in the past 75 years and we look forward to more innovations and opportunities to serve our community and customers in the years to come.”
City Utilities will be providing historical information on the utility throughout the year and specifically near the 75th anniversary date of March 26, 2020. Stories and photos will be available on our website and social media sites.
