Normal Operations – Effective July 7
Utility Moves to Normal Operations and Possible Reopening of Lobby
City Utilities would like to again remind customers who have experienced financial difficulty during the past few months to contact our Customer Service area to discuss payment arrangement plans for their utility account.
In mid-March due to the COVID-19 crisis, City Utilities of Springfield halted service disconnection for non-payment. Beginning this week, CU will be notifying customers with delinquent accounts of possible service disconnections. Initial notifications will be made by phone to the number associated with the account. Due to increased fraudulent calls to customers, a payment option via phone will not be provided. Customers are asked to contact Customer Service at 417-863-9000 or visit cityutilities.net to make a payment. Payment arrangements must be made with a Customer Service representative.
“We’ve received positive responses and feedback from our community on the assistance during this phase of the pandemic. At this time, we want to reach out to those customers whom we have not heard from and may need to make payment arrangements,” said Brent Baker, Associate General Manager – Customer Operations and Communications, “Communicating with us will help avoid service interruptions and possibly additional charges on the outstanding amounts.”
Resumption of service disconnections will begin on July 7. That same date, City Utilities plans to reopen the lobby at 301 E. Central for customers. Due to current occupancy restrictions and distancing guidelines, a limited number of customers will be allowed in the lobby at a time. Entrance to the lobby will be limited to the east doors from the customer parking area.
