October 2022 Board Update
Drought Conditions Can Impact City’s Water Supply
Rainfall this week brought minimal relief from the drought conditions in Southwest Missouri. Higher than normal temperatures, lack of rain this fall, and increased water demand are factors that currently have Springfield’s water supply slightly below 75 percent, with the historic level near 80 percent. City Utilities reminds all customers to use water wisely even during the fall and winter months. Ideas on how to reduce water usage and your utility bill, is available on the Ways to Save section of our website.
Heating Costs Will Be Higher This Winter
As we enter the winter heating season, City Utilities continues to closely monitor market prices for natural gas. Customers have been alerted of higher costs by receiving a detailed letter in August, television ads, social media posts. Additional outreach by City Utilities will continue throughout the heating season. Higher natural gas costs have been experienced nationally and worldwide, due to increased demand, damage to a gas facility in Texas, and conflicts around the world.
To help offset the cost impact, customers can use Level Pay to budget monthly utility bills by paying the same amount each month. Customers are encouraged to sign up for My Account to track usage of natural gas, electricity, and water and to receive important alerts and messages from CU. Information on these and other programs can be found on our website or by calling Customer Service.
City Utilities utilizes several methods to purchase natural gas including off-season purchases and storage for peak season demand, helping to minimize market price volatility.
Heating System Tune-up and Other Rebates and Efficiency Tips
With natural gas costs near record prices, it’s important that your heating system is operating efficiently. Through December 31, CU is offering a $50 rebate to cover a portion of the cost for a heating system tune-up. Information on the Heating System Tune-up Rebate, and other money saving rebates, can be found on the Residential Rebates section of our website.
