Health-Related Benefits

Medical Coverage

Immediate coverage beginning on the date of hire, offered to employees and dependents (spouse and children).

  • Teladoc – Talk to a doctor anywhere by phone or video and get care 24/7 for select non-emergency ailments at no cost.
  • Convenient Care Clinics – Visit convenient care clinics, including those located in CVS, Walmart, and Walgreens nationwide, at no cost.
  • Wellness credits can be earned to offset the employee-only medical coverage cost.

Dental & Vision

Employee and dependent coverage available through employee-paid payroll deduction on a pre-tax or post-tax basis.

 

Flexible Spending Accounts

Pre-tax payroll deductions that can be used on qualified medical or dependent care expenses.

  • Medical Flexible Spending Account – Used to cover eligible expenses including deductibles, coinsurance, co-payments, vision, hearing, dental, and prescription drug costs not covered by health insurance.
  • Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account – Used to cover family childcare expenses

Retirement Plans

  • LAGERS – Defined benefit retirement plan with the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS). Become vested in LAGERS after five years of full-time employment. Retire as early as age 55 with a reduced benefit or age 60 with a full and unreduced benefit.
  • 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan – Contribute up to 25%, or IRS maximum, of base salary on a pre-tax and/or Roth basis. Calendar year contributions are capped at the limit set by the IRS.
  • 401(a) Thrift Savings Plan (Nonunion Only) – Contribute up to 25%, or IRS maximum, of base salary on an after-tax basis. Company match of $0.50 for each $1.00 employee contribution, up to 6% of base salary.

City Utilities-paid life insurance that includes accidental death and dismemberment equal to two-times base salary. Voluntary supplemental and dependent life insurances are also available for an additional cost.

Paid Time Off

Paid Leave Opportunities

  • Vacation Time – Receive up to 80 hours of vacation in first year of employment.
     
  • Personal Time – 16 hours of personal time is awarded each year in addition to vacation time.
     
  • Sick Time – Accrue sick time to a maximum of 1,040 hours. Hours earned over the maximum can be cashed out or invested annually. Any balance remaining will be paid upon retirement at 60% value.
     
  • Volunteer Time – Up to eight paid hours are available for the purpose of volunteering in the Springfield community each year.
     
  • Holidays – City Utilities observes twelve paid holidays each year, even if the holiday falls on a weekend.
     
  • Parental Leave (Nonunion Only) – Up to 120 consecutive hours annually of paid parental leave to enable employees to care for and bond with a newborn or newly adopted child.
     
  • Caregiver Leave (Nonunion Only) – Up to 120 hours of intermittent paid caregiver leave to care for the employee’s parent with a serious health condition.
