CU is making it easier to start saving energy and water in your home!

First

Get a Home Energy Audit

Rebate:  50% of the cost up to $200

The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program starts with an interview to help your Home Performance Contractor understand concerns you have about your home’s energy use and comfort.

After the interview, the Home Performance Contractor will inspect your home to determine where improvements are needed – inspecting your home inside and out, including the heating and cooling equipment, duct systems, and even lighting and appliances. Your Home Performance Contractor will also run diagnostic tests to check the home’s envelope and duct leakage, or use an infrared camera to find trouble spots. After the audit is complete, the contractor will prepare a detailed work proposal outlining recommended cost-effective improvements and available rebates.

Once the Home Performance Energy Audit is complete and the required paperwork has been submitted, you will be eligible for a rebate of 50% of the energy audit cost, up to $200 for simply having the audit completed!

Second

Make the Home Improvements

Rebate:  Up to $600

Once you decide which improvements to make, your Home Performance Contractor will help you get the job done right. Because of their specialized training and experience, the Home Performance Contractor must complete the air sealing measures to make your home tighter and more comfortable. You may choose your Home Performance Contractor to complete other items, or you may choose another contractor – or do it yourself. You will have 120 days from the date of the audit to complete these improvements.

When the work is completed, your Home Performance Contractor will conduct another set of tests to show the difference the improvements have made. Their work may also be checked by an independent third-party, so you can have added confidence that the job is done correctly.

Once the improvements and final testing are complete, program requirements are met, and the required paperwork has been submitted, you will be eligible for additional rebates from City Utilities up to $600.

Program Steps
  1. Schedule an Appointment. Contact one of City Utilities approved energy auditors to perform a home energy audit.
  2. Complete the Audit. The energy auditor will create a report that details the recommended improvements and calculates the potential savings.
  3. Submit the Home Energy Audit Rebate Application. Submit your rebate application to City Utilities. This must be done within 90 days of the energy audit.
  4. Review the Recommendations. The energy auditor will outline the minimum measures required to qualify for the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Home Improvements rebate.
  5. Make the Improvements. Insulation levels, air sealing, and any additional improvements need to be completed and the auditor must conduct a post-installation test to verify results.
  6. Submit the Home Improvements Rebate Application. The last step is to submit your rebate applications to City Utilities. This must be done within 120 days of the initial energy audit.
