Changes to Natural Gas & Water Bills

Nov 6, 2018

As winter approaches, you may start to see a change in your utility bill especially if you heat your home with natural gas. Keep reading for more information about changes you may see to your natural gas and water bills. If you have questions about your bill, call customer service at 417-863-9000.

Natural Gas

As temperatures cool and furnaces turn on, customers will begin using more natural gas each month.  Although CU’s natural gas rates are 30 percent lower than the national average, the gas bill can still be a significant cost each month. Purchased gas costs are a significant component in the commodity charge, and these are adjusted monthly to correspond to projected natural gas costs. Present projections for customers suggest average delivered natural gas rates, including fuels, to be about 4.6 percent higher in 2019 compared to 2018.

Water

It’s no surprise that most customers use less water during the winter than the summer. Water rates during the winter period (November through May bills) are lower than during the summer period (June through October).  A 3.8 percent increase, on average, to water rates went in effect in October 2018.  However, customers’ bills are expected to remain relatively stable considering the lower usage during the winter months and lower 2018/2019 winter period rates relative to rates during the 2018 summer period.
